What's
Hot For Tots:
August 13,
2007
When
it comes to entertaining my daughter, I am always
on the look out for new and fun products or activities
to continually make her happier than the day before.
And when entertainment comes with an educative
aspect, I am thrilled to no end, just like the
day we received the Horatio Lion's DVDs created
by Watch US and Follow, LLC.
I remember that day.
It was one of those hot muggy days when you can't
put a foot outside for fear of being steamed.
It was the day when the puppet Horatio saved my
day.
Horatio certainly has fine diverting and singing
skills but he also likes to teach children important
lessons, which makes him even funnier to watch…and
follow. For instance, in the volume 1, your tot
will learn to wave "hi" and "goodbye",
to identify colors and shapes, to differentiate
the seasons or to clap and dance… Later,
in the volume 2, she will discover flowers growing
in the garden, listen to musical instruments,
or learn to recognize different types of transport...
And all that while
having fun!
I am convinced that
the secret of Susan and Edmund Shangold, the creators,
lays in the succession of physically demanding
sequences (jumping, dancing…), sequences
extracted from a tot's daily life (bath time,
nap time…), with more reflective sequences
(counting to 10, alphabet…). To me, this
will give any one to four-year old child hours
of amusing and captivating learning. But if you
ask my tot, she will tell you that what is appealing
to her is the genuine kindness of Horatio, his
simple and clear eloquence (helping her polish
her English vocabulary) and, last but not least,
the participating children with whom it is impossible
to not instantly connect with (after all, what's
more interesting to a child than another child?).
Thus to all tots feeling
hot this summer, my tot recommends staying cool:
watch and follow Horatio Lion.

Your
Toddlers Will be Entertained and Will Be Taught
Basic Skills!
While
we don’t watch a ton of DVDs or tv shows
in our home, we definitely like to have some around
for rainy days, or when mommy just needs a break!
We have some entertaining ones, and a few educational
DVDs, but usually my kids can’t tell the
difference! When our new Horatio Lion DVDs arrived
at our house, quite honestly, I didn’t know
whether my almost-three year old was perhaps a
little too old for them. But, after watching the
DVD once, I was very surprised to see how many
times she requested to see “the Lion”
again!
Horatio
Lion DVDs were created by a husband and wife team
from NYC, who actually converted their living
room to a makeshift studio during filming. The
lion, Horatio, narrates short segments where he
teaches basic skills such as letters, numbers,
and colors! Although my daughter is familiar with
most of these concepts, she was still entertained
by the lion, and wants to watch the tapes over
and over again. My almost one year old son also
enjoyed watching the videos, more for the colors
and the fun lion than the lessons (but that will
come with time!).
"Horatio Lion is a captivating character
that teaches young children important age appropriate
educational concepts that are the building blocks
for more advanced learning. The presentation of
the material is colorful and interesting enough
to engage a young child, yet the stimulus presentation
is at a pace slow enough that the information
can be retained and will not overwhelm the child.
This
DVD is a great way to get kids excited about learning.
The integration of real children throughout the
DVD participating in the learning process further
adds to the already engaging quality of Horatio's
teaching style. Hooray for Horatio!"

The
Daily Stroll:

Meet Horatio
I am forever on a
search for great DVD's for Ruby. I will be the
first to admit and accept that television watching
when controlled by small increments of time is
a great way to entertain Ruby while I get a few
essential things done during the day.
Such essentials as
the dishes and write the daily stroll. If you
object to my allowing Ruby to be babysat by the
television I will make no apologies as it's the
21 century and what else is she supposed to do?
Help me write the daily stroll? Um, no. 23 month
olds and keyboards are a bad match. Plus she has
to earn her keep and review all of these products,
geesh.
Recently we were sent
Horatio the Lion. I was told by the producer that
it is an educational video geared toward 1 to
2 & 1/2 year olds and revolves around a lion
puppet named Horatio. These are true and it is
very educational but it's also funny. I may be
in love with Horatio, he may have to become my
new daytime love as my letters to Captain Feathersword
have gone unanswered.
Horatio is cute and
while walking the toddlers through counting, transportation
and other necessary skills, he hums a cute little
song to himself. "do di do di do" or
something to that effect, and I rather like it
in lieu of background music.
Produced
in Manhattan by Edmund and Susan Shangold, Horatio
the Lion is fresh, and different and I really
think Ruby is learning something! Visit www.HoratioLion.com
to purchase and find out more about this great
company.

"Wow,
what can I say, my kids really love this video
and adore the main character Horatio! We have
a 14 month old son and a 2 1/2 year old daughter
and they both enjoy the video. One thing that
I think is great is how the kids interact with
Horatio and the other kids on the screen. Lots
of topics are cover in this one, which is nice.
I definitely recommend the video!"

"Horatio
Lion is the most fabulous children’s video
my family has ever owned. I am amazed at how much
my 2 and ½ year old daughter loves the
video, and especially its main character, Horatio.
She walks around singing the video’s songs,
which are catchy AND educational! I love that
the video keeps her so entertained, and she doesn’t
even realize she is learning colors, numbers and
shapes! My six month-old son is even mesmerized
by the video’s bright colors and cheery
songs. I highly recommend this video to anyone
with young children! "

"My
kids love Horatio. This is the only video that
gets them giggling. My son LOVES when Horatio
plays peek-a-boo - he'll laugh out loud. My girls
also laugh, but one girl like the animals the
best and my other girl laughs when everyone claps.
With so many other videos I have, the babies will
sit there stone-faced, but not with Horatio. My
babies are 10 months old. I highly recommend this
video for very young viewers"
"Our
son Tyler received this video for his first birthday
and loves Horatio!! He has learned different shapes
and how to count, as well as other educational
activities. He especially loves copying Horatio's
friends Hannah, Alexander, and Ayden when they
dance!"

"I
love watching my son learn as he interacts with
Horatio. It’s amazing to see how much he
absorbs on colors, numbers, animals -- each time
he watches he finds something new. Horatio Lion
is a wonderful video that makes learning fun,
and we look forward to Volume 2."

"My
17 month old son is a big fan of Horatio! He can't
get enough of this video. He is always asking
to watch the lion. This video isn't as fancy as
some of the others, but my son is really drawn
to the character!
The
video teaches a lot of concepts, which is nice.
It's always nice to see him learning from a video.
I notice that he interacts with this video as
well. Clapping with the kids, waving hi &
bye. It's pretty amazing.
I definitely
recommend this video. Probably best for babies
from 10 months to 2 ½ years."
"My
daughter loved Horatio starting at 4 months old.
It helped her learn to wave hi by 7 months. She
is almost 1 and still screams when we put the
disc on. I strongly recommend this video, and
we both look forward to Volume 2."
"It was love at first sight for my 15 month
old daughter. Horatio has become her favorite.
When I play the video for her I know that she
is enjoying herself, being entertained, and learning.
She talks back to the tv - she can name the colors
and the animals. She loves when all the balloons
appear and fly away. We just had our first snow
and she knew what it was from Horatio. She waves
hi and bye to the children in the video.
I love any product that can make my child react
the way she does! I highly recommend this video.

"We have a 4 year old and two year old twins.
Horatio is one of the few video’s that they
all seem to agree on. Can’t wait for the
next one to come out!"
